Is SimCity Societies Worth Playing?

About a month ago I found SimCity Societities at Half Price Books for a bargain. I was very wary of the game because it was so similar to SimCity so I wasn’t sure if there was really any difference and it was more so a casual gamer’s game. Originally I started off with a first impression of the game video and now have a final impression of the game.

The first time I played the game I was very unimpressed. It’s because of the tutorials. I think there isn’t good way to do a beginner’s tutorial, because some people like having something shown to them on what to do, step by step; where as if you’re like me, you like trial and error. So when I did the tutorial I was thinking this game was going to be a flop. After two weeks of pressing on, playing it actually became pretty rewarding. The game is similar to SimCity. You build a city, you manage the city and you try to keep your people happy. This game goes into far more depth then just building a city and putting up zones for industrial, commercial or residential. You actually get to choose the buildings being built and the venues.

When you are building venues it’s make your citizens happy. Some venues are affected by what buildings are around it, so you can click on the venue and see how it is affected. Now one thing that is different about this game and SimCity is that your buildings can give you different attributes that will help you run your city more successfully, or they require certain attributes in order to function.  This keeps you more on your toes on what buildings you are putting into your city.

During the game the music is actually pretty nice, calm background music. Just like any game you can turn down the background and play your own music.

Overall I would recommend this game for any causal gamers looking for something that isn’t too stressful to enjoy.
